I now needed to get back to work, so I got back in touch with the Idex guys in Cambridge looking to see if they had any ideas. I certainly did not want to work for Idex again. They came up with the idea of going into business for myself doing technical illustration. I had done all the drawings for the Idex product manuals while I was there, and they thought that there could be a market for my skills.
JAB Designs
I spent a few months making a mailshot and posted it to a couple of hundred companies, remember that there was no internet or email yet. I called myself 'JAB Designs'. I had one response and worked for a couple of weeks in a design office near Richmond but nothing else materialised and I gave up the idea of going it alone and started looking for a proper job.
